Ex-Australia star compares the India-Pakistan rivalry to Ashes
Former Australia cricketer Michael Hussey believes that the rivalry between India and Pakistan is incomparable to one between India and Australia. This statement comes ahead of the 5-match Test series between Australia and India which is set to commence from November 22 in Perth.
Despite the fact that both India and Australia have played some absolutely iconic matches against each other, Hussey believes that the Baggy Greens would never be able to match the rivalry between India and Pakistan. He even compared the rivalry between the neighbours to the oldest rivalry of the game between England and Australia.
“The Ashes is always very special for an Australian and an English player as well. But, yeah, I’m not sure we can ever compete with India versus Pakistan. That’s a unique series, and the rivalry is obviously very strong there. But yeah, I agree. India has turned themselves into a real powerhouse of world cricket. Australia have been pretty strong over the last 20 or 30 years. So I think the rivalry has really grown. And, two great teams, two great nations, going head to head. That’s what everyone wants to see,” Hussey told Times of India.
Though it may not be on the level of India and Pakistan, the rivalry between and India and Australia has also become quite huge especially in the recent years.
This is due to both the teams being involved in memorable matches against each other like Australia’s World Test Championship final victory against India or the Men in Blue’s famous victory over the Baggy Greens at the Gabba in the Border-Gavaskar series 2020/21.
