Excessive use of AI can fry brain, study reveals

In today’s era, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made people’s work much easier, but the other side of its coin is scary. A recent survey conducted on 1,488 employees found that excessive use of AI tools is causing mental stress and fatigue among employees. Researchers have named this condition ‘AI brain fry’.

According to research published in Harvard Business Review, when a person continuously uses AI tools or constantly strains his brain to correct the mistakes made by AI, the brain becomes completely tired. In this condition the person faces problems like difficulty in concentrating, insomnia and constant headache.

According to the study, the impact of AI on people from every region is not the same. In this list, people from the marketing sector have suffered the most. 26 percent people in marketing sector, 19.3 percent in human resources, 17.9 percent in operations, 17.8 percent in software developers sector and least 5.6 percent in legal sector have been affected.

14 percent of the employees surveyed admitted that the use of AI causes them a different kind of fatigue, which they call ‘mental fog’ or ‘brain fog’. In this situation, the person is unable to take quick decisions and experiences constant buzzing in his head.

Earlier research had also revealed that instead of increasing productivity, AI is making people do more work. Many employees try to get the work done by giving prompts to the AI agent even during their ‘break time’, due to which the brain does not get rest.

The expenses of companies are also increasing due to AI brain fry. Employees who suffer from this problem have 33% more fatigue in their decision-making ability compared to other employees. This increases the chances of making mistakes in work and taking wrong decisions, which ultimately harms the business.
