Exclusive | Prakash Jha confirms ‘Rajneeti 2’ is in the works
Mumbai: Director Prakash Jha exclusively told News9 that ‘Rajneeti 2’ is in the making. When asked if the cast would remain the same, Jha stated that he was not in a position to disclose details.
Previously, on Rajneeti’s 15-year milestone, the director had confirmed there was a plan to make a sequel. “Raajneeti (politics) ki yatra toh anvarat (constant) hai, chalti hi rehti hai! There’s always been a plan for Raajneeti 2. While there is nothing concrete in terms of casting and shooting yet, I am currently working on it,” said the director.
About Raajneeti
Rajneeti, released in 2010, earned cult status. Its powerful storyline, amazing soundtrack, and huge star cast made it an iconic film. The film featured Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Nana Patekar, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee, Sarah Thompson and Naseeruddin Shah in important roles.
Speaking of the film, Jha stated that its pre-production went on for a year. “We cast 8,000 actors for an authentic crowd scene, which was quite a task.” He also revealed how the casting for a film of that scale felt good.
“The good thing about casting was that whoever we approached liked the script and came on board. They felt challenged to perform well. People say it was a commercial success,” said the director. He added, “For me, Damul (1984), Mritudand (1997), Gangajal (2003), Apaharan (2005), or Satyagraha (2013) are just films. But, it feels nice when people talk about them.”
Four composers, late Aadesh Shrivastava, Pritam, Shantanu Moitra and Wayne Sharpe, came together to create the movie mesmerizing sound track. The lyrics were penned by Gulzar, Irshad Kamil, Sameer and Swanand Kirkire.
In 2016, Prakash Jha also wrote the book Raajneeti – the Film and Beyond, which revealed a lot about the film’s making.
