New Delhi: With an aim to make India a global hub for academic and technological collaboration, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has launched the G20 Talent Visa. It is designed to strengthen India’s scientific and educational ecosystem by targeting scholars, researchers and professionals from G20 countries.
The decision to roll out the new visa is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal at the G20 Summit, where he highlighted the need to create a platform for talented individuals in science and technology. Speaking at the G20 Summit in September, Prime Minister Modi said, “This type of special visa could be highly beneficial for our top science and technology talent to explore global opportunities. Their talent and efforts can contribute significantly to our economies.”
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged higher education institutions to inform their stakeholders and make sure that the advantages of this new initiative are accessible to a broader audience. By launching the G20 Talent Visa, India seeks to enhance its educational framework while also drawing outstanding talent to its institutions.
The UGC’s official notice reads, “It is informed that Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has announced the approval to introduce a new category ‘G20 Talent Visa’ under sub-category (S-5 visa) of Student Visa for Scientists, Researchers, Faculty members, Scholar Academicians of the G20 group countries to enter India for the purpose of projects, training programs, post-doctoral research, fellowships etc.”
What is G20 Talent Visa?
The newly launched G20 Talent Visa by MoHA is classified under the S-5 sub-category of the Student Visa framework. It provides entry to individuals from post-doctoral research, fellowships, academic projects and specialized training programs. This special visa attracts the most talented individuals from the G20 countries who promote global partnerships and innovation in the country.
India’s G20 Talent Visa, launched to attract exceptional talent, draws inspiration from various global programs such as the UK’s Global Talent Visa, the US O-1 Visa, and Australia’s Global Talent Visa.
