Explainer: What is the 56 year old Mad Man theory? With the help of which Trump had set out to defeat Iran, he had to face defeat.

US Madman Theory: US President Donald Trump has been widely criticized for the aggressive language he used during the recent Iran war. Especially his strong warnings regarding opening the Strait of Hormuz and statements like “wiping out Iranian civilization” raised many questions. However, according to the reports now emerging, all this could be a part of a well-planned strategy of America, which is called “Madman Theory”.

This strategy is believed to be associated with former US President Richard Nixon. During the Vietnam War, Nixon wanted his enemies to believe that he could go to any extent, even carrying out nuclear attacks. He had instructed his aides to create an “erratic” and “somewhat paranoid” image of him among his opponents, so as to create fear and confusion and force the enemy to compromise.

What is the madman theory?

Madman Theory is a strategy in international politics in which a leader shows himself to be unstable, short-tempered or unpredictable. Its purpose is to make the opposing side believe that it can go to any extreme step. When the other party cannot predict the leader’s behavior, he avoids taking risks and often leans towards compromise.

Trump kept changing statements deliberately

Trump’s attitude during the confrontation with Iran seemed to match this strategy. While he threatened to “send Iran to the Stone Age” and launch major attacks, he also agreed to a ceasefire shortly afterward. His statements kept changing, sometimes a stern warning, sometimes a proposal for talks.

Such contradictory and aggressive statements portrayed Trump as an unpredictable leader, a core element of the Madman Theory. This is also linked to the “Good Cop, Bad Cop” strategy, where the same leader exerts pressure by playing different roles.

President’s statement remained in controversy

Donald Trump’s statements may have been controversial, but according to analysts, this could also be a strategic method aimed at confusing the opponent and forcing him to bow down at the negotiating table.
