Chinese company BYD has launched the Song Ultra electric car. It is priced between CNY 151,900 to CNY 179,900 (approximately ₹20.72 lakh to ₹24.54 lakh). This mid-size pure electric SUV is equipped with several advanced features including BYD’s second-generation Blade battery and ultra-fast flash charging technology. Compared to its competitors, BYD has presented the Song Ultra EV as an SUV that offers more comfortable space, faster charging and a lower price.

As part of BYD’s ‘Dynasty’ lineup, the Song Ultra EV follows the range’s signature design language. Key features include attractive LED headlamps, top-mounted LED DRLs, a closed grille, distinctive slatted corners and a smooth bonnet design. Its side profile features square wheel arches, 19-inch low-drag wheels, flap-type door handles, blacked-out pillars and a gently sloping roofline.

At the rear, this SUV maintains a balanced profile, free of any complicated design elements. Its taillights are inspired by the traditional Chinese knot design and are in a connected format. The BYD logo is visible at the very center of the connected tail lamp setup. Parts of the rear bumper have a metallic finish, further enhancing the sporty profile of the SUV.
Color options for the BYD Song Ultra EV include Fire Grey, Snow White, Smoky Purple, Galaxy Beige, Palm Green and Obsidian Black. Measurements wise, this SUV measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,840 mm. Its boot space is 730 litres, which can be expanded to 1,659 liters by folding the rear seats. Additionally, this SUV has a 150-litre trunk (front side storage space).

In terms of interior, the BYD Song Ultra EV features a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 26-inch head-up display. This tech setup is powered by BYD’s UI 7.0 system. Other features include ventilated and heated front seats, 10-point massage and 8-way adjustable powered driver’s seat.
The BYD Song Ultra EV also features 3D ambient lighting, a column-mounted electronic shifter and soft-touch surfaces in high-pressure areas. An interesting feature is the ‘Bed Mode’, which folds the front and rear seats to create a continuous surface of 1.8 meters in length. This can be very useful during long journeys. The rear seats offer 986 mm of legroom and can be folded in a 40/60 ratio.
All variants of the Song Ultra EV are equipped with BYD’s DiSus-C intelligent damping system. Its safety package includes seven airbags and a full range of ADAS features. A laser-based DiPilot 300 driver assistance system is optional. Equipped with 27 sensors and LiDAR, the DiPilot 300 offers features such as city navigation assist, highway navigation assist and automated parking.

The BYD Song Ultra EV is available with 68.4 and 82.7 kWh battery pack options. The CLTC range of the smaller variant is 620 km, powered by a 240 kW (326 PS) electric motor. The larger variant can travel up to 710 km on a single charge, powered by a 270 kW (367 PS) electric motor. All variants of the BYD Song Ultra EV are available in RWD. All variants have a torque output of 305 Nm. The top speed of this electric SUV is 210 km/h. Superfast charging charges the car from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes. It takes approximately 9 minutes to charge from 10% to 97%.
