Eyes on powerplay: UP Warriors vs Delhi Capitals, clash today in WPL 2026
Navi Mumbai: When UP Warriors and Delhi Capitals face each other in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match here on Wednesday, they will be eyeing to improve their performance in the powerplay. The Warriors batsmen have not been able to perform as expected in the powerplay while the Capitals bowlers have struggled in this important part of the game. The Capitals have not had an ideal start under the captaincy of Jemimah Rodrigues and her team will be desperate to get their campaign back on track. After the loss to Gujarat Giants, Rodrigues had said, “I think our bowling has not been good in the powerplay. I think we need to improve our strategy.”
The positive thing so far for Delhi Capitals has been the good performance of bowlers Shri Charani and Nandini Sharma. Nandini had scored a hat-trick in the last match, which must have boosted her confidence a lot. On the other hand, UP Warriors will have to bat well in the powerplay. In the first two matches, Harleen Deol and Kiran Navgire opened the innings with Meg Lanning but both these combinations did not prove to be effective. The team management will have to find a player to open the innings with Lanning.
Indian fast bowlers Kranti Gaur and Shikha Pandey also need to improve their performance. Deandra Dottin will also have to recover from the disappointment of the last match. In this match, Grace Harris had scored 32 runs in one over. After the loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore, captain Lanning said, “There are definitely some areas in which we need to improve.” Especially the top order batsmen will have to perform well. We played a lot of dot balls in the beginning.
The teams are as follows:
Delhi Capitals: Jemimah Rodrigues (captain), Shafali Verma, Marijan Kapp, Nikki Prasad, Laura Wolvaardt, Chinelle Henry, Shree Charani, Sneh Rana, Lizelle Lee, Dia Yadav, Tania Bhatia, Mamta Madiwala, Nandini Sharma, Lucy Hamilton, Minnu Mani, Alana King.
