AccountDumpling Scam: A Growing Threat

Cybersecurity firm Guard.io has detected this large-scale attack, which has been named AccountDumpling.

Till now, around 30,000 accounts have already been hacked.

Chief researcher Shaked Chen said that this scam is spreading rapidly.

Experts suspect that some organized gang of Vietnam is behind this work.

Hackers mainly target accounts that can generate income, and later sell them in the digital black market.

How hackers make this scam look real

Scammers abuse tools like Google AppSheet to send phishing emails.

These emails look completely genuine because they come from a trusted system.

Because of this, spam filters often don’t catch them.

Hackers also use advanced tricks like ‘invisible characters’ to avoid security checks.

How does your account get hacked?

Victims receive messages that claim:

that their account may be deleted

that a complaint of copyright infringement has been received

Or that they are entitled to receive a free ‘Blue Tick’ without any subscription

On clicking the link, they are taken to a fake login page or captcha.

Users inadvertently enter the following information:

Login credentials (username and password)

Two-factor authentication (2FA) code

Once the information is submitted, hackers take complete control of the account.
