Fake CAG officer becomes groom: Married to MBA bride, game worth crores opened through chat after wedding night
Ghazipur/Faridabad (Desk): A sensational case has come to light from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, which has given sleepless nights to families who blindly trust matrimonial advertisements and profiles. A young man claiming to be a senior audit officer of the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) department in Delhi not only broke the dreams of a highly educated MBA bride but also embezzled around Rs 1.5 crore in the name of marriage. Now the reality of this ‘Royal Wedding’ has been recorded in the files of Faridabad Police.
Magnificent wedding procession and pomp and show worth Rs. 1.25 crore: money was spent like water
The matter is of Karanda police station area of Ghazipur, where the marriage of an MBA pass working daughter of a reputed family with Shubham Singh, a resident of Jakhania, was solemnized with great pomp on 29 April 2025. The aggrieved party left no stone unturned in the marriage for the happiness of his beloved. It is alleged that during the marriage, around Rs 81 lakh was given in cash and online. The total expenditure including jewellery, luxury gifts and grand event reached Rs 1.5 crore. At that time no one had any idea that this procession with musical instruments was actually a well-planned conspiracy.
Raw letter exposed through excuse of government audit and WhatsApp chat
Since marriage, the accused husband Shubham Singh kept trying new tricks to save his ‘fake’ identity. He often avoided living with his wife on the pretext of official audits and government tours. However, being an educated professional, the bride started seeing contradictions in her husband’s lifestyle and words. Doubt turned into belief when the bride found her husband’s mobile phone. After checking the WhatsApp chat, it was found that the person whom she thought was a big officer, was completely unemployed and his personal expenses were also borne by his sister. His entire claim of being a CAG officer turned out to be just a white lie.
Dowry harassment and cheating: Serious allegations against father-in-law and husband
The victim has narrated her ordeal at Vallabhgarh Mahila Police Station in Faridabad. According to the FIR, even after the truth came out, the hunger of the accused party did not diminish. The accused husband and his family continued to extort money from the girl’s father on different pretexts. When the victim protested, she was physically and mentally tortured for additional dowry. It is alleged that retired BDO father-in-law and other family members together carried out this entire fraud.

Considering the seriousness of the case, the police have tightened the noose against the main accused husband Shubham Singh, father-in-law Anil Kumar Singh and Haridwar Singh (retired BDO). A case of cheating, fraud and dowry harassment has been registered against the accused under sections 115, 3(5), 316(2), 351(2) and 85 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS). The police is now busy connecting other links of this high-profile fraud.
