Fake Haj permit game in Makkah, 3 Indonesians arrested, cheating on social media
Saudi security forces in Mecca have arrested three Indonesian residents. These people were cheating people in the name of Hajj services by putting fake advertisements on social media. How did the game of fake Hajj services work?
These people misled people by using social media and ran fake advertisements. Investigation revealed that the two arrested accused were roaming around wearing the uniform of official Indonesian Hajj officials to deceive people. Police have seized fake Haj permits, huge amount of cash and computer equipment from them, which were being used in making fake documents.
Saudi government warning and complaint rules
Saudi Arabia’s Public Security has appealed to the general public to strictly follow Hajj rules. The government has clearly stated that performing Hajj without official permission is illegal and all services should be availed only from recognized platforms. If anyone sees any suspicious activity, they can report it by calling 911 in Mecca, Medina, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 999 in other parts of the Kingdom.
Indonesian government response
Henny Hamida of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry has confirmed these arrests. The Indonesian Embassy in Jeddah (KJRI) is investigating the identities of the accused and coordinating with the local government. The Indonesian National Police (INP) have also said that they are committed to providing legal assistance to their citizens stranded abroad.
