Leaders of many major parties including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti had raised questions on the encounter.
Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the encounter in Ganderbal district in which a terrorist was killed by security forces.
Leaders of several major parties, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti, had raised questions over the encounter that took place on the night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sinha said in a post on ‘X’ that I have ordered a thorough and impartial magisterial inquiry into the encounter in Arhama, Ganderbal. Through investigation, all aspects related to the incident will be investigated and justice will be ensured.
The family of the slain youth Rashid Ahmed Mughal had claimed that he had no connection with terrorism. Abdullah said in a post on social media platform ‘X’ that I believe the family’s claim should not be rejected outright. At least there should be a transparent and timely investigation into this incident and all the facts should be made public. He said any attempt to delay the announcement of the investigation would only damage credibility and would not be in anyone’s interest.
