Famous Assamese singer Samar Hazarika passes away, CM expressed grief

Guwahati. Famous Assamese singer Samar Hazarika died at his Nijarapar residence here on Tuesday morning at the age of 75. He was the youngest brother of Bharat Ratna awardee famous folk singer Bhupen Hazarika. He was suffering from age-related health problems and was admitted to a city hospital for some time. Samar, son of Neelkant Hazarika and Shantipriya Hazarika, has done playback singing in many music albums and Assamese films.

Summer has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of the region. Condoling his demise, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on Twitter, “Saddened by the demise of senior singer Shri Samar Hazarika. His heart-touching voice lit up every occasion. He has made an indelible contribution to the cultural landscape of Assam.

He also carried forward the rich legacy of Sudhakanth Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and made valuable contributions to our efforts to celebrate his birth centenary. With his demise Assam has lost another golden voice. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and fans in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.” Samar Hazarika was a prominent singer and composer of Assam.

He was born in 1951 in a music-loving family in the Sadiya region of Assam. He was the youngest among 10 siblings. He received his primary education in Assam only. He sang Assamese songs and composed music for radio, albums and films. The message of humanity, love and brotherhood was prominent in his songs.
