Shyam Benegal (born December 14, 1934) is a famous director of Hindi films. Benegal, known for films like Ankur, Nishant, Manthan and Bhumika, is counted among the leading directors of parallel cinema.

Let us tell you that Shyam Benegal was honored with Padma Shri in 1976 and Padma Bhushan in 1991 by the Government of India. His successful films include Manthan, Zubaida and Sardari Begum. In the year 2007, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award of Indian cinema, for his contribution. He is the only film director to win the National Film Award for Best Hindi Feature Film five times. Shyam Benegal was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the field of arts by the Government of India in 1991. They are from Maharashtra.
