Famous filmmaker Shyam Benegal is no more, breathed his last at the age of 90

Famous film industry director Shyam Benegal has passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 90. Shyam was ill for a long time. The famous film maker was unwell for a long time due to increasing age. His daughter Pia Benegal confirmed this news and said that this was bound to happen one day. Benegal was awarded the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 1991 by the Government of India. His successful films include Manthan, Zubaida and Sardari Begum.

Shyam Benegal leaving this world saying goodbye is a big loss for the entire industry. It is reported that he breathed his last on December 23 at 6.30 pm. Recently he celebrated his 90th birthday. Actress Shabana Azmi had shared pictures of this party on her Instagram. In the photo, Shyam was seen laughing and smiling with Benegal, Shabana and Naseeruddin Shah. The director was born on 14 December.

Shyam Benegal started direction with the film 'Ankur' in 1974. This film was based on social issues. This film gave him international recognition. Apart from this he also made important films. He made memorable films like 'Nishant', 'Manthan', 'Bhumika' and 'Sardari Begum', which are remembered even today.

It is known that 'Manthan' was the first film which was made with the financial support of the audience. This film was based on the dairy movement. The biggest quality of his films was that they presented the truth of the lives of common people and their struggles with authenticity.

Shyam Benegal also gave many valuable actors to Indian cinema, which include great actors like Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Amrish Puri, Anant Nag. Apart from films, the famous serials 'Bharat Ek Khoj' and 'Kehta Hai Joker', 'Katha Sagar' on Doordarshan were directed by Shyam Benegal. Shyam Benegal also made documentaries on his guru Satyajit Ray and the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. In his autobiography 'Act of Life', Amrish Puri has described Shyam Benegal as a walking encyclopedia.
