Fans angry over tickets being re-sold for exorbitant prices- The Week

Last week, British band Coldplay made an exciting addition to their record-breaking tour, Music of the Spheres, with an Asian leg that includes stops in Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Hong Kong and Seoul.

The band will be in India on January 18, 19 and 21, 2025. It led to a mad rush for tickets among the fans.

Tickets for the Mumbai show went live on Sunday afternoon on BookMyShow, with an astounding 1.3 crore people waiting in a virtual queue system. On seeing the high demand, Coldplay announced a third show for January 21, which was also sold out within minutes.

However, fans were quick to notice that platforms like Viagogo, known for ticket resales, had acquired a huge percentage of tickets and were selling them at extremely high rates.

Tickets that were originally priced between Rs 2,000 and Rs 35,000 were now being listed for amounts ranging from Rs 30,000 to over Rs 7 lakh.

Many were also individually selling tickets on social media at a resale value much higher than the originally listed price.

The price upsurge sparked outrage among fans, who took to social media to express their frustration, calling it “cheating”.

Many fans also tagged the band, telling them to cancel the Mumbai show.

Netizens urged BookMyShow to look into the issue, to which they replied with a warning, not to purchase tickets that were not sold on their website and to be vigilant of scams.
