He told that during his college days, he and his friends did not take Hindi films seriously and mostly watched Hollywood films. Farah said, “We often looked down on Hindi films. When we were in college, we used to watch only Hollywood films. The atmosphere at that time was something like this. If the worst period of Hindi films can be said, then it was the 80s.”

Increasing pressure from the underworld in the 90s

Farah Khan further said that the underworld had a lot of influence on the film industry in the 90s. He said that when he started his career, there was an atmosphere of fear in the industry. Referring to an incident, he said that at that time the murder of film producer Mukesh Duggal had shaken the entire film world. Farah said, “I remember I was on the set and I had just started my career. It was probably 1993 or 1994. Then the news came that producer Mukesh Duggal had been shot. That incident shocked everyone.”

Karan Johar had received threat from the underworld

During the podcast, when Ranveer Allahbadia asked about the underworld pressure on the three Khans of Bollywood – Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, Farah Khan admitted that there was a lot of pressure on the industry at that time. Although he refused to say whether Shahrukh Khan had ever received a call from the underworld or not, but he did share the incident of Karan Johar receiving a threat.

Security was increased at the premiere of ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’

Farah Khan told that after receiving the threat, there was a lot of tension in the entire team regarding the premiere of the film. Security arrangements were also increased. He said, “I remember that at the time of the shooting and premiere of ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, everyone was worried because of the threats. Security was greatly increased. Eventually the premiere happened, but Karan was very tensed.”

Worry instead of celebration of first film

According to Farah Khan, this moment should have been very special for Karan Johar because it was his first film. But due to threats he could not celebrate this happiness openly. Farah said, “Imagine, this is your first film and instead of celebrating it, you are in fear and stress. That time was very difficult for Karan.”
