Faridabad factory fire: 42 injured, 10 critical after explosion at chemical factory

Faridabad: At least 42 people are injured, 10 of them critical after an explosion triggered fire at a chemical factory in Faridabad on Monday. The fire was reported from Sector 42 of the district. The exact cause of the incident is still not known.

Sharing details, the police said that fire broke out at 4.15 pm at Kalkaji Lubricants, a chemical factory in the Mujesar area of the district. The incident occurred after sparks of short circuit came into contact with chemical-filled drums, which led to the fire, Hindustan Times reported.

According to an official, workers tried to douse the fire initially, but it rapidly spread, engulfing a large section of the unit within just few minutes. “The presence of oil and chemical drums inside the premises further intensified the blaze, making firefighting operations difficult,” an official said further as per the report.

A total of seven fire tenders reached the spot immediately after receiving the information. “Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and the situation is now under control. A police team has been deployed, and an investigation is underway. Preliminary findings suggest a short circuit, and due to the presence of chemicals, the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the factory within minutes,” Yashpal Yadav, Public Relations Officer, Faridabad Police said.

3 policemen injured

According to the health department, of the 42 injured, 12 have been admitted at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital. The rest have been shifted to private hospitals. Of then conditions of ten remain critical. Three policemen were also injured while helping fighter pilots and conducting rescue operations. “Our team reached the spot and helped to evacuate workers trapped inside. Some policemen suffered burn injuries during the rescue,” the police added.
