Farooq Abdullah Firing: Firing took place during a wedding ceremony near Royal Park in Greater Kailash area of Jammu, in which former Jammu and Kashmir CM Farooq Abdullah had a narrow escape. Deputy CM Surinder Chaudhary was also present in this ceremony. Farooq Abdullah is safe, while Surinder Chaudhary suffered minor injuries due to shrapnel and was treated for medical treatment.

According to the information, the accused has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, who has been overpowered by the security personnel and taken into custody. Police have started investigation. CCTV footage shows that the accused allegedly pointed a gun at Farooq Abdullah. This was a tense incident, which was stopped in time when security personnel overpowered the suspect. Officials said Abdullah, along with Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary, were returning from a wedding ceremony when the incident occurred.

Reacting to this incident, CM Omar Abdullah said on Twitter, ‘Allah is merciful. My father had a narrow escape. Details are not clear yet, but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol came at point blank range and fired. Only the close protection team stopped the bullet and ensured that the assassination attempt was foiled. At this time there are more questions than answers, including how a Z+ NSG protected person got so close to the former CM.
