FASTag glitches will prove costly, now verification will happen immediately, drivers should be alert
FASTag Blacklist: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a big decision to make the toll system more transparent and stronger across the country. In the new instructions issued on April 15 NHAI has ordered all banks to immediately check and verify the vehicle registration number linked to the FASTag issued by them.
This step was taken after continuous complaints came to light that the vehicle number recorded in the FASTag reader at the toll plaza and the number written on the number plate of the vehicle were not matching. This glitch not only raises questions about the reliability of the system, but it can also cause loss to the government’s revenue.
What is the real cause of the problem?
According to NHAI, the root of this problem lies in the old FASTag. These are the tags that were issued at a time when the FASTag system was not fully linked to the VAHAN database. At that time, verification of vehicle information was mostly done manually, due to which mistakes remained in many records. Now that the entire system has become digital, these old flaws have started coming to light.
What will happen now? action will be taken immediately
NHAI has directed all banks to identify such FASTags in which the vehicle number is incorrect or invalid. All such tags will be blacklisted immediately. Considering this process as very important, orders have been given to complete it as soon as possible, so that any kind of disturbance can be avoided in future.
New toll system is coming
The importance of this decision also increases because NHAI is preparing to implement Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system soon. In this new system, vehicles will not need to stop at toll plazas and the entire toll collection will be done digitally. That means now everything will depend on data.

Direct action if rules are broken
If the registration number of a vehicle is found to be incorrect, an e-notice can be sent directly to it. Not only this, strict action can also be taken under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 if the rules are violated.
Important advice for drivers
If FASTag is installed in your vehicle, then immediately check whether the registration number entered in it is correct or not. Small negligence can lead to huge fine or trouble later on.
