Fazila Qazi breaks silence on son’s viral article
Veteran Pakistani actress Fazila Qazi has publicly defended her son Zorain Nizamani after his article stirred widespread discussion online. Zorain, a lawyer and PhD scholar in criminology based in the United States, gained sudden attention following his piece titled “It’s Over,” which highlighted how today’s youth reject outdated narratives and demand inclusivity and accountability in policymaking.
The article quickly went viral and was later removed after drawing the attention of senior authorities, triggering speculation and criticism on social media. Addressing the controversy, Fazila Qazi clarified that her son’s views were strictly personal and not connected to any political party or agenda.
Speaking on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast Excuse Me, Fazila Qazi expressed disappointment over what she called the misrepresentation of the article. She explained that the original piece was not controversial and that much of the backlash stemmed from deep political polarization in Pakistan. According to her, young people—especially those studying abroad—are encouraged to speak openly, question systems, and exchange ideas freely in academic environments.
She emphasized that such discussions are a normal part of modern education and global discourse, particularly in fields like criminology, political science, and criminal justice. Fazila Qazi added that society has failed its youth by misusing power instead of guiding the next generation responsibly.
Expressing pride in her children, she said she considers it a blessing to be the mother of independent thinkers who were raised with strong moral and religious values.
