FIFA World Cup 2026: Big raid by Toronto Police, fake goods worth ₹21.5 crore and 2 trophies recovered

Toronto Police said the operation was conducted at a warehouse in Mississauga, from where a large quantity of counterfeit sporting goods was recovered. The investigation began after a complaint was received in May, based on which the police conducted the raid.

More than 16 thousand jerseys and 2 fake trophies found
According to police, the seized items included more than 16,000 counterfeit jerseys, flags and other football merchandise. Fake logos of brands like FIFA, Nike, Adidas and Puma were placed on them. The recovered items also included two fake FIFA World Cup trophies.

Investigators say the accused were operating a counterfeit goods business from a warehouse in Mississauga and shipping it to retail stores. Police have registered charges against both the accused related to forgery and selling counterfeit goods.

Increased surveillance before the World Cup
Canada is hosting the FIFA World Cup for the first time. The tournament is co-hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico. A total of six matches will be played in Toronto and more than 3 lakh spectators are expected to reach the city during the tournament.

In view of this, security agencies are keeping a close watch on all the commercial and logistics networks related to the World Cup. Police have warned shopkeepers of strict action against selling counterfeit goods and appealed to people to buy World Cup merchandise only from authorized sellers.

World Cup 2026 will start from June 11. In such a situation, this action of Toronto Police is being considered as a big blow to the business of counterfeit goods before the tournament.
