A first half hat-trick after 32 years
Ousmane Dembele has become one of the few players in World Cup history to score a hat-trick in the first half. He is the first player since 1994 to achieve this record in the FIFA World Cup. Earlier, Russia’s Oleg Salenko scored three goals in the first half against Cameroon in the 1994 World Cup. Austria’s Erich Probst tops the list. He had a hat-trick in the first 24 minutes against Czechoslovakia in 1954. Dembele has become only the third French player in history to score a hat-trick at the World Cup, having been preceded by Just Fontaine (twice in 1958) and Kylian Mbappe (2022).
