FIFA World Cup 2026: Spain becomes world champion for the second time, these players including Rodri won awards
New York. The FIFA World Cup 2026 has ended with a historic victory for Spain. In the final played at the New York-New Jersey Stadium, Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 and achieved the honor of becoming world champion for the second time after 16 years.
The only goal of the match was scored by substitute Ferran Torres in the 106th minute. After the final, most of the attention was on those players who received individual awards for their excellent performance throughout the tournament.
This time Spain not only won the trophy but also maintained its dominance over individual awards. Team captain and midfield master Rodri was voted the best player of the entire tournament and was awarded the Golden Ball.
Rodri played in all eight of Spain’s matches, controlling the team’s midfield brilliantly and completing a record 648 successful passes.
At the same time, even though France’s star striker Kylian Mbappe could not make his team champion, he won the Golden Boot by scoring 10 goals. With this, he became the highest goalscorer in the World Cup for the second consecutive time.
Spain’s goalkeeper Unai Simeone was chosen the best goalkeeper of the tournament. He kept seven clean sheets throughout the World Cup and saved the team from conceding goals on many important occasions. He was awarded the Golden Glove.
Just 19-year-old Spanish defender Pau Quibarsi caught the world’s attention with his strong performances. He received the Best Young Player award for his excellent defence.
