FIFA World Cup: Iran will not play World Cup football, decision taken after Khamenei’s death

Tehran. Iran’s Football Federation President Mehdi Taj said that after the attacks by America and Israel on his country, he cannot say with certainty whether his team will be able to play in the FIFA World Cup football tournament to be held in America this year or not.

Mehdi Taj told sports portal Verzesh3, “Certainly after this attack we cannot look forward to participating in the World Cup.” After the US and Israeli attacks, Iran also retaliated. After the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the future of this country is plunged into uncertainty and the risk of regional instability has increased.

Iran has been placed in Group G in the World Cup and has to play matches against New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21 in Inglewood, California. After this, it will play its last match of the first round against Egypt in Seattle on June 26. World Cup football will be played from June 11 to July 19 in America, Canada and Mexico.
