In such problems, the time limit for return is decided depending on the severity of the injury and in the case of Messi, it is not yet certain when he will return. Inter Miami said in its press release that the timeline for his return to physical activity will depend on his medical and functional progress.
Messi’s injury could deal a major blow to Argentina’s World Cup plans, because the star striker has already made it clear that he will play in the World Cup only when he is fully fit. Although Messi has not officially announced that he will take part in his record sixth World Cup, he is expected to captain Lionel Scaloni’s side alongside Inter Miami teammate Rodrigo De Paul.
FIFA World Cup 2026 is to be played from June 11 to July 19 in America, Mexico and Canada. Argentina are in Group J of the World Cup, where they will face Algeria in Kansas City on June 16, Austria in Arlington, Texas, on June 22 and Jordan on June 27, also in Arlington.
Messi has participated in five World Cups and has won the Golden Ball Award twice as the best player of the tournament. He won this award for the first time in 2014 and again in 2022, when he led Argentina to the title. Messi has participated in a record 26 World Cup matches and scored 13 goals and eight assists.
