Figure skating rivals-turned-lovers Olivia Smart and Jean-Luc Baker get engaged during Winter Olympics
Baker got down on one knee to propose to Smart on a street in Milan on Valentine’s Day, as reported by The Sun.
In a video he posted on Instagram captioned “It was always you,” Baker documented the entire process leading up to the proposal, from holding the ring in the stadium stands while Smart competed on the stage to the moment she tearfully said “Yes” while holding an umbrella.
A video of the proposal posted by Jean-Luc Baker on his Instagram page.
Smart also shared a series of engagement photos with a brief caption, “14.02.26,” the date of their engagement, marking a new chapter after years of being both rivals and soulmates.
The posts quickly drew a wave of congratulations from fans, with many emotional comments calling it a happy ending to a relationship that began on the ice.
While Smart and her skating partner Tim Dieck did not win a medal for Spain after finishing ninth in ice dance earlier at the 2026 Winter Olympics, she left Italy with a ring and an unforgettable engagement.
