The availability of Pakistan star Saim Ayub for the Champions Trophy 2025 is not confirmed since he faced an ankle injury. Saim went through assignments with his surgeons in London on January 11 to evaluate his knee injury. He got examined by renowned specialists Dr. David Redfern and Dr. Lucky Jeyadeelan.
Though the initial assessments are complete, it is going to take around a week to determine the complete range of the injury and determine his availability for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is eager to have Saim fit and available for the much important match against India on February 23rd in Dubai.
“Even if the doctors say he will not have recovered from his injury in time for Pakistan’s opening CT game against New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi but he could be fit for the India game, the selectors and PCB are willing to take the risk,” the source stated.
PCB wished to see Saim recover in time for the Champions Trophy, more importantly the much-awaited match against India. Despite an initial prediction of a six-week recovery period, Said got sent to London for special consultations.
The PCB is going to receive complete reports and recovery timeliness from the specialists next week. However, the initial examinations have ruled him out of the danger of any surgical complications, be it invasive or non-invasive.
“Their findings are that Saim can recover from his injury through physiotherapy, medication and rest but how long a rehab period they suggest will be known next week,” the source added.
The PCB has included Saim Ayub in the preliminary squad for Champions Trophy. The selection committee has the time of February 12 to finalize the 15-member squad, which will allow for changes to happen based on player fitness.
Saim is going to stay in London for the upcoming week to determine the most suitable course of action for his recovery. He is going to consult with the specialists in order to decide whether to undergo rehabilitation in the PCB’s high-performance center in Lahore or whether to continue his recovery in London, where there are chances for him to receive more specialised care.
