Bhagalpur: An FIR has been registered against Narendra Kumar Neeraj alias Gopal Mandal, former MLA from Gopalpur assembly constituency, in the case of waving a pistol in a public place in Bhagalpur during Holika Dahan. Bhagalpur Police took this action on the basis of viral video on social media. The police became alert after the video of the incident spread rapidly on social media. It was seen in the video that during the Holika Dahan program organized on the occasion of Holi, Gopal Mandal was seen roaming in a public place with a pistol in his hand.

In the press release issued by the police, it was said that on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, social media and other online platforms are being continuously monitored. During this time this video came to our notice. Preliminary investigation found this act to be in the category of displaying firearms in public. Considering the seriousness of the incident, an FIR was registered under relevant sections at Barari police station.
The police have initiated legal action considering the matter as a possible violation related to ‘public display of arms’. In this, a formal report has been sent to the District Arms Magistrate to ensure seizure of the firearm concerned, checking the validity of the license and following other legal procedures.

Police are investigating

Police said that the case is being investigated impartially and thoroughly and further action will be taken based on the available evidence. He also clarified that no one is above the law. An appeal has been made to the common citizens not to display weapons in public under any circumstances. The police also said that all necessary steps will be taken to maintain law and public safety.
