Big blow to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, FIR registered in MUDA scam case

On Wednesday, a special court in Bengaluru had ordered a Lokayukta police investigation against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, paving the way for filing his FIR. The order by special court judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat came a day after the high court upheld Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's approval to investigate Siddaramaiah. Siddaramaiah was sued by MUDA along with his wife B.M. There are allegations of irregularities in the allotment of 14 sites to Parvati.

The special court constituted to deal with criminal cases related to former and elected MPs/MLAs issued the order directing the Lokayukta police in Mysuru to initiate investigation on the complaint filed by RTI activist Snehamoyi Krishna.
Instructions to file investigation report by 24th December
The court issued directions to conduct an investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) (which empowers a magistrate to order an investigation into a cognizable offence) and file the investigation report by December 24.

The court had said that “Acting under Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the jurisdictional police i.e. the Superintendent of Police, Karnataka Lokayukta, Mysuru, is directed to register the case, investigate and prosecute the accused within a period of 3 months from today under Cr.P.C. “Directions are directed to file the requisite report under section 173.”
It listed offenses punishable under sections 120B, 166, 403, 406, 420, 426, 465, 468, 340, 351 and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The court had also listed offenses punishable under sections 9 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, sections 3, 53 and 54 of the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988 and sections 3, 4 of the Karnataka Prohibition of Land Acquisition Act, 2011.
Wife's name also included in the FIR
Official sources said the names of Siddaramaiah's wife Parvati, his relatives Mallikarjuna Swamy, Devaraju and others have been named in the FIR. Devaraju is the person from whom Mallikarjuna Swamy bought the land and gifted it to Parvati.
