Fire breaks out during Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes BBL 2025 match, play halted at Gabba

The Big Bash League is one of the most popular franchise tournaments across the globe. 35 games have been played so far in the 2025 edition of the high-octane league. But then the 36th match proved dangerous.

During the 36th Big Bash League (BBL) match between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at the Gabba in Brisbane, play was stopped after a fire broke out on the playing field. Chasing the target of 201 runs, Hobart Hurricanes made a good start to the game by scoring 47/0 in 4 overs.

Police and security personnel intervened to control the situation. A small fire broke out in the DJ booth at Gabba at around 4:11 IST and as a result, police and security teams were called for help.

“There is also a fire near the DJ deck at the moment, which is a bit worrying!” Emma Friedman said on Channel 7.

“It's actually flames, they are extinguishing them.”Earlier also there had been an incident with some firecrackers. It's really on fire! It's too hot to heat in here!”

Fans watching the game from the stands had to vacate their seats as a safety measure. After the situation was brought under control, all the players and officials had to leave the field.
