Fire in South Korea’s auto factory: 50 people injured, relief work underway
Sol. At least 50 people were injured in a fire at a parts factory in South Korea’s central city of Daejeon. Officials gave this information on Friday. The national fire agency said 35 people were seriously injured, but they could not immediately confirm whether anyone’s condition was life-threatening. In the video obtained from the incident site, thick smoke was seen rising from the premises.
It was not immediately clear how many workers were still trapped inside the plant, the official said. The agency has warned that the number of casualties may increase. The fire was reported at around 1:17 pm. Officials did not immediately comment on the possible cause of the fire.
The agency said that more than 200 firefighters and 70 vehicles were deployed in relief work to extinguish the fire. Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, the second-highest official in the government after President Lee Jae-myung, called for full deployment of personnel and equipment to control the fire and conduct rescue operations.
