The massive fire that broke out in Palam area of Delhi on Wednesday morning has shocked everyone. There was chaos in the building as the fire spread rapidly. The local people showed courage and tried to save the people trapped inside by breaking the walls and windows. About 40 people together broke the shutter of the shop, but smoke and strong flames became a major hindrance in the rescue work.
Eyewitnesses alleged that technical flaws were revealed in the initial action of the fire department. People say that the equipment of the first fire engine that reached the spot was not working properly and due to a fault in the hydraulic system, the relief work was affected for about 45 minutes. It took about 50 minutes for the second fire engine to arrive, which made the situation worse.
Neighbor broke the wall
A local shopkeeper said that they tried to enter through the roof of the neighboring building, but could not see anything due to the smoke. Neighbors also tried to break the shared wall, but people could not go inside due to fear of seeing smoke and flames. At the same time, a policeman was trying to reach the third floor of the building by holding the railing above, but he too could not go.
Father jumped with one and a half year old daughter
Meanwhile, to save his life, a man had to jump from the third floor along with his one and a half year old daughter. In this accident, both the legs of the girl were fractured, while the father suffered serious head injury. Both have been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.
According to the local people, inflammable material was kept in large quantities in the building, due to which the fire took a severe form. Also, the building had only one entry and exit door, so people could not get out. After the incident, a large-scale rescue operation was carried out, in which teams of police, fire department, BSES, Air Force Police and National Disaster Response Force were involved. The fire was brought under control with the help of about 30 fire engines and 11 ambulances. At present, officials have started investigating the cause of the fire as well as allegations of delay in rescue operations and equipment malfunction.
