Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Sachin Mahor said about the incident that a total of 54 newborns were admitted in the NICU. At around 10:30 pm, a massive fire broke out due to a short circuit in the oxygen concentrator. Due to the rapid spread of the fire, there has been massive damage to the indoor unit.

Fire alarms and water sprinklers were not working, delaying rescue operations. The fire extinguishers installed in the hospital had expired four years ago. People present at the spot said that the cylinder was not working. There was no alternative system to extinguish the fire.

As the fire spread rapidly, the nursing staff as well as some parents picked up their children and took them to a safe place. Many children were shifted to another unit, but the fire was so severe that 10 children could not be saved from the fire. Many people have also been injured.
