New Delhi: New Zealand skipper Tom Latham on Saturday said that the team’s intention was to fire first shots at Team India and winning the toss in both the first and second Test match at Bengaluru and Pune were key factors in their series triumph. The Kiwis beat India by 113 runs to clinch the three-match series 2-0 on October 26, with the lasty match scheduled for November 1.
Their victory brought an end to the most successful home run for any Test side (18) in terms of series wins at home. Latham, after the match culminated, praised his team members for a terrific show in the opening two matches of the series.
Winning the toss was crucial: Latham
“We’ve played a style where we’ve fired a shot at India and we’ve been on the right side of a couple of tosses as well, that has been really important,” Latham told the media after New Zealand’s win inside three days.
Latham further said that the team wanted to compete and fire a shot first up and he’s glad that they were able to do it in both the games. The Kiwis won the battle with the ball in the first match and with the bat in the Pune Test and the side were successful in putting first innings runs on the board, which worked for them. In addition, the skipper also said that bowlers went to work over the last couple of days which was very delightful to see.
Latham, who has been a part of New Zealand’s tours to India in 2016 and 2021, said winning the toss also played a instrumental role in Black Caps’ success. The third and the final Test of the series will be played in at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai from November 1.
