The connection of match being canceled due to fog on 17th December is old, this has happened in Pakistan too

IND vs SA: T20 match was to be played between India and South Africa on 17th December at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. This was the fourth match of the series of 5 matches, the host team, which was trailing 2-1, had a chance to equalize by winning it. But due to fog on the field, the match had to be canceled even before the toss. You might be thinking that this is the first international match to be canceled due to fog, but it is not so.

It has been canceled in Pakistan also

In the year 1988, a test match was to be held between Pakistan and Zimbabwe in Faisalabad, Pakistan. This match was canceled due to fog. There was dense fog on both days of the test match. Even before the third day’s play could begin, a blanket of fog spread around the field. Visibility became extremely low, due to which many players remained out of the field. The situation remained the same the next day, after which the umpires decided to cancel it.

That match was on 17th December only

Coincidentally, both the matches that were canceled due to fog were scheduled for 17th December. The test match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe was canceled on 17 December 1998. Whereas India vs South Africa 4th T20 was to be played on 17 December 2025. This coincidence is very amazing in the history of cricket. Therefore, the country’s board or ICC will now have to think before holding the match on this date.

Match canceled after 6 inspections

India vs South Africa match should have started at 7 o’clock. The umpire and match referee waited for the situation to clear till 9:30, during which 6 rounds of inspection were conducted. After each round the timing was increased by half an hour. However, the audience had understood and after 9 o’clock the stadium started emptying. While leaving the stadium, some fans criticized BCCI and some demanded refund of their ticket money.
