Jamie Bell becomes Duke Shelby – Obnews

Netflix and BBC have released the first official photo of the untitled Peaky Blinders sequel series. In this series, Jamie Bell plays the role of Duke Shelby, the eldest son of Cillian Murphy’s famous character Thomas Shelby. Bell takes over the role from Barry Keoghan, who played the younger version of the Duke in the recent Netflix film *Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man* (which was released in March 2026, after a brief theatrical run).

The new series takes place approximately 10 years after the events of The Immortal Man, set in the city of Birmingham in the early 1950s, following the Second World War. The story focuses on the next generation of the Shelby family as they rebuild the city. Its official tagline reads: “In this new season of Peaky Blinders, a decade after the Second World War, the race to rebuild Birmingham turns into a fierce and fierce battle. The city is filled with unprecedented opportunity and danger. At the center of this blood-soaked city is Duke Shelby: now wiser, more experienced, more ambitious and certainly more dangerous.”

Charlie Heaton (*Stranger Things*, *Industry*) will be seen in the lead role opposite Bell in this series. Additionally, the series also stars Jessica Brown Findlay (*Downton Abbey*, *Silo*), Lashana Lynch (*No Time to Die*, *The Day of the Jackal*), and Lucy Karczewski (*Stereophonic*), who are making their television debut with the series. Not much information has been revealed about the supporting characters yet, but more announcements are expected soon.

Series creator and writer Steven Knight expressed his excitement about the project, saying: “I’m really excited that we’re starting a new era of Peaky Blinders, taking the story to the city of Birmingham in the early 50s, after World War II. We’re very lucky to have Jamie Bell to play Duke, Tommy Shelby’s eldest son, and to have our best friend in the lead role in the series. With the addition of the amazing artist Charlie Heaton, there are more exciting announcements to come, and the journey of Peaky begins once again.”

Two seasons of the series (each consisting of six episodes) are currently being filmed in Birmingham, with the majority taking place in Digbeth Loc. Filming is being done in the studios. The series is produced by Banijay UK’s Kudos and Garrison Drama and will premiere on Netflix worldwide, and BBC One/iPlayer in the UK. Cillian Murphy is its executive producer.

The project continues to expand the world of Peaky Blinders, following its original six seasons and the intervening movie *The Immortal Man*.
