First National Indoor Athletics Championship to begin at Kalinga Stadium

Bhubaneswar, 22 March 2026: The first National Indoor Athletics Championship will begin from today at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, which will open a new chapter in track and field competitions in the country. 278 players including 97 women are participating in the two-day competition. According to the organizers, the championship has been developed with the aim of strengthening the indoor athletics calendar in India and providing competitive opportunities to the players at the beginning of the season.

Odisha’s rising international sprinter Animesh Kujur will showcase his abilities in the 60m race, aiming to make a good start to this year’s sports season. Tamil Nadu’s international level athlete Praveen Chitrawal will participate in the men’s long jump. The first medal race of the competition today will be the men’s 3,000 meter race.
