First time visiting Thailand? Making these mistakes can be disastrous

The call of the blue sea and the aroma of Thai sauce make Bengali’s feet tingle again and again. Is Thailand on your first foreign travel list? Searching for such a familiar yet unfamiliar look at a cheap price is a challenge. The country is also one of the popular tourist destinations. When middle-class families plan to travel abroad, the first name that comes to mind is Thailand. But before stepping into this dreamland for the first time, it is important to know some important things. Otherwise the pleasure trip may be all mud.

The first mistake is to ignore the weather and set out on a trip. Many people think that Thailand means 12 months of bright sunshine. But the monsoon here is severe. If you buy a ticket in the rainy season without realizing it, you will spend your vacation in the corner of the house. The best time to visit Thailand is November to February. During this time the weather is pleasant and dry.

Secondly, the pillars of Thai culture are temples or ‘wats’. Sacred places like Wat Arun or Wat Pho have strict dress codes. Open clothing is prohibited. It is highly disrespectful to sit with one’s legs spread towards the Buddha image or to touch the monks. So moderation in dress and behavior is highly desirable. Not only women but also men have to follow this rule.

Also be aware of using local transport. Don’t fall into the trap of ‘special tours’ by taxi drivers everywhere. Always walk to the meter, or use a trusted app like ‘Grab’. Similarly, it is a big mistake to exchange all the money at the airport counter. Much better rates are available if money is exchanged at an authorized center in the city.

Another instinct of Bengali tourists is the urge to see everything in a few days. Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Pattaya—trying to touch them all together is tiring and less fun. Go less, enjoy more. Also, pay attention to the laws of that country. Any comments about the royal family or public smoking and vaping can land you in legal trouble.

The floating market of the city, the taste of street food and the experience of touching the blue water of the sea will make you forget all the fatigue in an instant. Follow a few precautions to create your first Thailand diary.
