That five year old story due to which Jitan Ram Manjhi kept giving clarification, said
Chief of Hindustani Awam Morcha and Jitan Ram Manjhi This story is related to the first five Bihar Assembly elections 2020. The matter is that one of his candidates was losing the election, which the candidate discussed with him at that very moment. He discussed this with the District Magistrate and asked for recounting. After recounting their candidate won the election. Hum Pramukh says that this thing has been distorted in a video.
In fact, a video purportedly shown on December 19 showing Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi talking about influencing the election results created an uproar among opposition parties. After the uproar, Manjhi has clarified that the video has been tampered with. This is a conspiracy of political opponents. He has accused his opponents of defaming him.
What’s in the video?
In the viral video, Manjhi can be heard addressing a public meeting in the local dialect Magahi. He is reportedly heard saying that he had helped ensure the victory of a candidate in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections by talking to the then District Magistrate.
In the video, he can be heard saying that his candidate was trailing by 2,600 votes, but won after his intervention. Manjhi further says in the clip, “This time, the candidate lost by 1,600 votes, but he was not told.” However, the official margin of victory does not match Manjhi’s claim.
According to media reports, these comments were made during a program in Mohanpur block of Barachatti assembly constituency. In the video, Manjhi also mentions the concerned District Magistrate, who is now reportedly posted in Tripura.
Manjhi has become a brand, is not afraid of anyone
When asked questions about this by the media, Manjhi has denied saying such things. He says, “Some people, who have tampered with one of my videos and made it viral, think that they can defame a Musahar’s son. I want to tell such people that now no one can insult a Musahar’s son nor make a fool of him. Those who spit on the sky, they are forgetting that the spit will fall on their face. Now Manjhi has become a brand, he is not afraid of anyone.”
Why are you giving clarification again and again?
Manjhi also said that if there has been any irregularity in this matter, it would be at the administrative level and not at the behest of any leader. Political experts say that Manjhi has to give repeated clarifications because this issue is directly related to the right to vote. The term ‘vote theft’ is a serious and emotional question in itself. The opposition is trying to make it a big issue among the public. Apart from this, Manjhi is considered a big face of Dalit politics, hence this controversy has an impact on both social and political levels.
Question on credibility of elections
On the other hand, on the basis of the video, Rashtriya Janata Dal has shared the video on social media and accused Manjhi of openly accepting election manipulation. The party said, “This is Jitan Ram Manjhi, Cabinet Minister in the Government of India, former Chief Minister of Bihar and patron of HAM Party. He is openly telling the royal formula to win elections through results, machinery and rigging.” RJD claimed that Manjhi was expressing regret over his party’s defeat in Tekari assembly constituency. RJD has also raised questions on the role of constitutional authorities in this matter.
