Flaws exposed in Ritkhedi Link Road, Bhagwant Singh Mann took a tough stance

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann ordered to issue a show cause notice against the contractor and immediately stop all his payment processes after irregularities were found in the construction of Ritkhedi Link Road in Patiala district. The Chief Minister today conducted a surprise inspection of three under-construction roads. Of these, two roads were found to be as per the prescribed standards, while several flaws were found in one road.

Chief Minister inspected the road

While inspecting the road under construction, the Chief Minister took samples of the road and expressed displeasure over non-compliance of quality standards. He gave clear instructions to the officials that immediate action should be taken against the guilty contractor. Apart from this, he also inspected Patiala-Sirhind road and Roorkee to Riunna Palain road in Fatehgarh Sahib district and asked the concerned officials to get the road samples lab tested.

Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this inspection campaign has been started to ensure the quality of road construction in the entire state. He said that the government is spending huge amount. Therefore, there will be no compromise on the quality of roads. The Chief Minister said that these surprise inspections will continue in the coming days to ensure that public money is utilized properly.

He also said that before road construction, work on sewerage, drinking water pipelines and other infrastructure should be completed, so that there is minimal damage to the new roads. Appealing to the citizens, he said that the general public should also keep an eye on the road construction work and inform the government about any irregularity.

Start of biggest road construction work

The Chief Minister said that the Punjab Government has started the biggest road construction work in the history, in which 44,920 kilometers of roads will be constructed at a cost of Rs 16,209 crore. He said that a condition of 5 years of care and maintenance has been added to all these roads, so that the roads remain safe and of high quality for a long time.

Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Chief Minister’s Flying Squad is constantly monitoring the quality of roads and the contracts of contractors using substandard material have been cancelled. He warned that any kind of negligence will not be tolerated in future also. He said that the state government is fully committed to ensuring proper and transparent utilization of taxpayers’ money.
