Flood of data in India: Every user is spending 31GB per month. The country is second in the world in adopting 5G.
New Delhi . The digital revolution in India has now reached a new level where the use of mobile data is continuously creating records. According to Nokia’s recent report Nokia Mobile Broadband Index 2026, every mobile user in the country is spending more than 31GB of data consumption on an average in a month. This figure not only shows the increasing penetration of internet in India but also shows how much people have now become dependent on digital services.
According to the report, 5G technology is expanding very rapidly in India. An increase of more than 70 percent has been recorded in 5G traffic year on year. Not only this, now about 47 percent of the total mobile broadband traffic of the country is coming from 5G. This change is an indication that users are increasingly adopting new and faster network technology.
India has now become the second largest 5G subscriber base in the world. This means that only one country is ahead of India while the rest of the world is behind India. This achievement is also special because till a few years ago 4G was the main network and now 5G is rapidly replacing it.
There are many big reasons behind this increase in data consumption. Nowadays people are using 4K video streaming a lot due to which data consumption increases rapidly. Apart from this, new trends like AI based applications and cloud gaming are also increasing data usage. From entertainment to work, almost everything has now become dependent on the internet.
The report also notes that metro cities lead in 5G usage with 58 percent of total mobile data traffic. This means that people in big cities are rapidly adopting high speed internet and making full use of it.
If we talk about devices, by 2025, more than 892 million 4G devices were active in the country, out of which 383 million devices have come with 5G support. The special thing is that more than 90 percent of the recently launched smartphones are coming with 5G support, which further strengthens the future of this technology.
These figures are going to increase even more rapidly in the coming times. It is estimated that by 2031 the number of 5G users in India may cross 1 billion. This simply means that the digital economy of the country will become even stronger and the use of internet will become more deeply integrated into every sphere of life.
This whole scenario shows that India is no longer just a country of internet users but is becoming a digital powerhouse where data is the new power and 5G is emerging as its biggest speed.
