Flood situation in Sahibganj is serious, many villages lost contact with the district headquarters, local administration issued helpline

Sahibganj: The rising water level of the Ganga river in the district has caused severe flooding, inundating many areas and causing hardships to people. Many houses have been washed away, cattle have died and people are struggling for essential amenities like food, water and electricity. The affected people have been battling the floods for more than a month, but they have not received any help from either the administration or the public representatives, which has further increased their troubles.

The water level has been rising for several days

The water level of the Ganga river has been rising continuously for several days, due to which flood water has entered the low-lying areas of Sahibganj. The fast flow and erosion of the river is so severe that the houses of many families have been submerged in water. Cattle have also been swept away in the strong current. Despite this, the flood victims have not yet received any relief from the administration, which has further increased the concerns of the people.

Shortage of fodder for cattle

District Council Vice President Sunil Yadav is continuously visiting the flood affected areas. He visited many affected villages including Kargil Diara, Lal Bathani, Kishan Prasad and listened to the problems of the people. The flood affected people told that there is a huge shortage of fodder for the cattle. They have nothing left to feed the cattle and have not received any help from the administration so far. This is putting the lives of the cattle at risk.

Chura and jaggery were found 15 days ago

The affected people said, “We have been facing the brunt of floods for a month, but the administration and public representatives have not taken any care of us. 15 days ago, we were given some chuda and jaggery, but after that no help was received.” There is no electricity in the villages for many days and kerosene oil is also not available, due to which people are forced to live in darkness. Due to lack of electricity, the danger to the cattle has also increased. Some cattle died due to snake bites in the dark of night. People said that even basic things like fodder, clean drinking water and medicines for the cattle are not available. Due to continuous stay in water, their feet have got infected and they have not even got tarpaulin or other relief material to live on.
