Flop since 11 years… Now scored a century in Ranji final, who is J&K’s Shubham Pundir?

Jammu and Kashmir team has reached a very strong position in the final of Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. In this title match being played at Karnataka Cricket Association Hubli Cricket Ground, Jammu and Kashmir has scored 527 runs at the loss of 6 wickets till stumps on the second day. This team, playing Ranji final for the first time, has not given any chance to 8-time champion Karnataka so far and has come very close to the first trophy.

 

So far, 6 batsmen from Jammu and Kashmir have scored fifty plus scores. Yawar Hasan (88), captain Paras Dogra (70), Abdul Samad (61), Kanhaiya Wadhawan (70) and Sahil Lotra (57 not out) have played half-century innings. Whereas Shubham Pundir scored an excellent 121 runs. This innings of Pundir came at a time when Jammu and Kashmir’s opening pair was down for 18 runs.

Pundir-Samad took over J&K

Pundir, who came at number three, made a partnership of 139 runs with Yawar Hussain for the second wicket. J&K captain Paras Dogra, who came to bat after Yawar’s dismissal, got injured and retired hurt and walked off the field. In this situation, the team’s problems could have increased but Pundir along with Abdul Samad took charge and managed to take the team beyond 300. Thanks to his innings, Jammu and Kashmir team is standing very close to the trophy.

Who is Shubham Pundir?

27 year old Shubham Pundir is a left handed middle order batsman. Even though Pundir plays cricket from Jammu and Kashmir, he belongs to Uttarakhand. He was born on 16 October 1998 in Dehradun. He played his initial cricket in Dehradun only. Later he came to Jammu for professional training and started playing from here.

 

Pundir made his debut for Jammu and Kashmir in 2015 itself, when he was only 17 years old. He started his professional career against Bengal at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, scoring 34 runs. However, after this, he was able to play only 30 first class matches in the next 11 years, in which he scored runs at an average of 27.57.

 

Pundir made a comeback in his up and down career with an innings of 165 runs against Himachal Pradesh in this Ranji season. After this, his bat remained calm in the quarter-finals and semi-finals but now he has created history by scoring a strong century in the final. He has become the first batsman for Jammu and Kashmir to score a century in the Ranji final.
