Follow these diet tips to keep blood pressure under control

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, has become a major health problem today. This disease is increasing rapidly due to poor lifestyle and unbalanced diet. High BP patients should take special care of their diet, because right diet not only helps in controlling blood pressure but can also reduce dependence on medicines. Let us know what hypertension patients should eat and what things they should avoid.

What things should hypertension patients avoid?
1. Processed Food:

Chips, snacks and packaged snacks are high in sodium, which can increase blood pressure rapidly.
Also avoid soft drinks and energy drinks.
2. Excessive salt intake:

The sodium present in salt increases blood pressure. High BP patients should avoid excess salt.
3. Sugar and Sweets:

Eating sweets increases weight and puts extra pressure on the heart.
Increasing sugar level can cause heart related problems.
4. Tea and Coffee:

Caffeine works to increase blood pressure.
Drink maximum 2 cups of tea or 1 cup of coffee a day.
What should hypertension patients eat?
1. Fruits and Green Vegetables:

Fresh fruits like orange, watermelon, banana and papaya contain potassium, which controls blood pressure.
Green vegetables like spinach, broccoli, carrots and beans are rich in minerals.
2. Whole Grains:

Oats, brown rice, lentils, moong and gram lentils are good sources of fiber.
Fiber helps control blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart problems.
3. Healthy Fats:

Eat nuts like walnuts, almonds and flax seeds.
They contain omega-3 fatty acids and healthy fats, which strengthen the heart.
Diet tips to keep high BP under control:
Limit salt intake to 1-2 grams a day.
Exercise for at least 30 minutes daily.
Avoid processed and fried foods.
Do not smoke and consume alcohol.
Include things rich in potassium and fiber in your diet.
