Food processing sector will become a strong base in the resolve of developed India, UP’s big step towards one trillion dollar economy
Lucknow, Amrit Thoughts: The food processing sector will play an important role in realizing the vision of a developed India. This sector is emerging as a strong base towards making Uttar Pradesh a trillion dollar economy. Under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, the state government is continuously taking concrete steps to promote investment, employment and farmers’ interests in the field of food processing.

The meeting of the Appraisal Committee under the Food Processing Industry Policy-2023 was held on Friday under the chairmanship of Meena. 12 investment proposals were presented in the meeting, out of which 10 proposals were approved and recommended to be presented before the State Level Empowered Committee. The approved proposals pertain to Saharanpur, Sitapur, Ambedkarnagar, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, Pilibhit, Aligarh, Bareilly and Meerut. In the meeting, citations were also given to successful units established earlier. Investors were appealed to pay special attention to purchasing raw materials from local farmers, use of indigenous machines, increasing women participation and solarization of units. The government also shared information about subsidies payable in this sector.
Additional Chief Secretary of Horticulture and Food Processing Department, BL Meena said that while ensuring processing, storage, value addition and marketing of farmers’ produce in the state, women of self-help groups are being linked to it.
Due to which women empowerment and employment generation has got a new impetus. After the IT sector, food processing has emerged as the highest priority sector of the state, which has unlimited employment potential.
