New Delhi: For the first time, a digital census will be conducted across the country, which has been announced. The government has also approved the budget for this. The census will be conducted in the year 2027. This proposal was approved in the Union Cabinet meeting. The government has also approved a budget of ₹11,718 crore for this.
This will be the first time that the census will be conducted digitally. 3 million employees will be deployed for this purpose. The Cabinet meeting also approved funds for the 2027 census. Union Cabinet Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has provided important information.
What the Union Minister Said
Following the Cabinet meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared important information. He said that three major decisions were taken in the Cabinet today under the chairmanship of PM Modi. He said that the first decision is regarding Census 2027. A budget of ₹11,718 crore has been approved for the census, which is a very large process in the country.
Secondly, a major reform has been implemented in the country’s coal sector through Coal Setu. Third, a major step has been taken for the welfare of farmers. He stated that a nationwide census will be conducted starting in 2027. This census will be conducted in two phases.
The first phase will consist of house listing and housing census, which will take place from April to September 2026, while the second phase will be the population census, which will begin in February 2027.
