Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar expressed concern over global economic security, freedom of navigation and narco-terrorism in the G-7 meeting.
New Delhi, 27 March. Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met his counterparts at the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in France. During this, the importance of freedom of navigation for global economic stability was also underlined. Also in the meeting, concern was expressed over the challenges posed by the increasing relations of narco-terrorism. Efforts to strengthen supply chains and enhance cooperation in critical minerals, which are considered vital for global development, were also appreciated.
S. Jaishankar wrote in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘Today in the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, various threats and sovereignty were discussed in the session. Emphasized the importance of freedom of navigation for global economic security. Also underlined the danger posed by the relationship between narco-terrorism. With regard to critical minerals, appreciated the ongoing steps being taken to enhance cooperation to expand their value chains.

Before this, Dr. Jaishankar reached France on Thursday for the two-day G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, where he met his counterparts from South Korea, Canada and Japan. In the meeting, the External Affairs Minister and her Canadian counterpart Anita Anand discussed ways to advance bilateral relations between the two countries and the situation in West Asia. He stressed the importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in strengthening global connectivity amid ongoing geopolitical tensions during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in France.
He said the conflict in West Asia has made the need for strong trade routes and secure supply chains even greater. Addressing the session, Dr Jaishankar emphasized that India’s growing trade agreements with major global partnerships, including the European Union, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the Free Trade Agreement with the UK, have added immense value to IMEC.
During the meeting, Jaishankar also appreciated the growing enthusiasm among international partners to complete the connectivity initiative. He stressed the need for reforms in the UN Security Council and the challenges facing the Global South. He said, ‘The UNSC stressed the need for reforms, simplification of peacekeeping operations and strengthening of humanitarian supply chains. In particular, the concerns of the Global South regarding energy challenges, fertilizer supply and food security were addressed.
