Shane Watson wants to give his place to this best player in Border-Gavaskar Trophy, know the reason

Mumbai: The prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy is to be played between India and Australia in November. Earlier, Australian opening batsman Shane Watson is quite disappointed with his recent performance. Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, former opening batsman Shane Watson shared his thoughts. After the recent disappointing performance for the team, he wants right-handed batsman Steve Smith to open the innings in the upcoming series.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia will begin with the first Test in Perth on November 22. In the last few years, India has gained the lead over Australia in series. India have won their last four consecutive series against Australia, including two wins each in Australia in the 2018–19 and 2020–21 seasons.

Border-Gavaskar record

India has been the more successful team in this series, with India having won the BGT 10 times and Australia winning it five times, with their last series win coming during the 2014–15 season. Their last series win in India was in 2004–05.

“Steve Smith has decided to open and I think he should stay there,” Shane Watson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo at the launch of the International Masters League. He will have to move back to No. 4 in terms of safety, but I would love to see him play in the opening spot because he has the talent to do that.”

Steve Smith has the skills

The all-rounder said, “I believe the reason why he has not performed well in the last few Test matches is because his technique was a bit wonky. You might have seen that he got out in a way that I have never seen him do before.”

The 43-year-old believes, “I know he would have had time to settle in, adjust some little techniques and if he opens up and makes those little adjustments, he would have been incredible as an opening batsman.” “Can be successful because they know they have incredible skills.”

There will be a five test series

Following the retirement of left-handed batsman David Warner this year, Smith opened the innings in the longest format of the game. Since promotion, he has had mixed performances in the opening slot.
