Former Australian great takes a massive Jibe at Rohit Sharma amid his recent test struggles
A talk show featuring former England captain Michael Vaughan and legendary Australia wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, instead, took a brutal dig at Rohit Sharma over the Test series between India and Australia. Not only had he not played the first Test, but he only managed to make 31 runs over the next three games. He faced severe criticism from fans and experts alike, which led to him stepping down for the final Test match in Sydney. During the discussion, the panel members were asked to select the best team of the summer, and Ian Higgins from The Grade Cricketer replied saying – “Following these tactics, it had to be Rohit Sharma’s PR Team”. This answer sent everyone into bursts of laughter, as Vaughan himself agreed with it.
“They had a good summer – came in late, missed the Test match, have a rest for the last Test match, and still weren’t dropped! And then he wants to play,” Higgins said.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar believes Rohit Sharma has the freedom to decide about retirement from international cricket, although he considers it to be the selector’s domain too. Rohit managed only 31 runs in five innings as India suffered a 1-3 Test series loss to Australia, and since he stepped down from the Sydney Test, his international future is now widely speculated.
“I believe that in Indian cricket, Tendulkar decided on his own future; henceforth, Rohit Sharma will decide on his. Retirement is a personal choice-how long one wants to play or for how much longer one wants to contribute it is the choice of the player. Nevertheless, it remains in the selectors’ domain. In this case, it’s Mr. Ajit Agarkar and his team,” said Manjrekar during an episode of ‘Deep Point’ podcast by Star Sports.
Manjrekar also went on to say that Virat Kohli should look forward to play some County Cricket ahead of the test series against England for improving his red ball game in the English conditions,he even went to give an example of Cheteshwar Pujara.
