In the midst of a high-octane competitive league stage in the Indian Premier League (IPL), an audacious statement by a former champion has caused quite the cricketing conversation to unfold. As the Rajasthan Royals gear up to take on the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 of the ongoing IPL 2026, Former India batter and CSK star Ambati Rayudu has come out strongly and has recommended opener Yashasvi Jaiswal move away from the Rajasthan, post the current and future tournament cycles.
The former Indian batter strongly feels Jaiswal is required to move on to build a new home in his career and has suggested that Jaiswal head a batting order on his own, as opposed to playing a support role to other players in the team structure. All this, is owing to the phenomenal emergence of the breakthrough batting talent from Rajasthan that has quickly stolen the spotlight from his more renowned international peers in this edition.
Why Does Ambati Rayudu Back A Franchise Switch For Yashasvi Jaiswal?
Rayudu made his point on ESPNcricinfo during an analytical commentary program. “I think Jaiswal can be an individual match winner; you can’t let him live and be on the sidelines for his prime years. Now, this whole issue is that we need Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in there. Teen prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi destroyed the whole tournament for me this year when he smashed a 97 off 29 against SRH. Orange cap is leading with 680 runs at 242.85. He has taken it away from Jaiswal.”
Rayudu elaborated that an alpha batter with such destructive habits requires a senior partner who is entirely secure in his own achievements to watch the carnage unfold rather than trying to match it stroke for stroke.
“He needs to change his team because he cannot just bat with the guy and be overshadowed every single time. He is a star in his own right. If he goes to another team, he will win matches on his own. He needs that space and that platform because this guy will keep continuing to overshadow people. It has to be a senior partner along with him who can deal with it, be happy for him, and not compete with the non striker.”
Will Yashasvi Jaiswal Bounce Back In The IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 Against Gujarat Titans?
The ultimate tactical focus now shifts entirely to the high-stakes Qualifier 2 clash, where the Rajasthan Royals are set to lock horns against the Gujarat Titans in New Chandigarh on May 29, 2026. Following their spectacular victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, this knockout fixture represents the final hurdle before the grand finale.
